Volvo’s elegant flagship sedan has finally arrived in India to compete against the likes of the BMW 5-series, Mercedes-Benz E-class, Audi A6 and the latest Jaguar XF.
The new Volvo S90 is an exquisite and extremely tasteful Scandinavian executive saloon that drips in luxury and technology. The Swedish marquee has been setting the luxury segment in India ablaze with back to back launches. The S90 is the latest update to the portfolio and is the company’s flagship sedan. It is built on Volvo’s SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform, just like its sister – the XC90. To entice a size-conscious market, the new Volvo S90 is the longest saloon in its category, measuring at a staggering 4963mm.
Styling on the new Volvo S90 is signature Scandinavian simplicity. The impressive chrome grille proudly displays the Volvo badge. Volvo’s Thor Hammer head-lamps glisten the front end. Tasteful lines caress the entire silhouette that is very proportionate and well balanced. The quintessential C-shaped tail lamps complete the package. Overall, the car oozes with its own unique understated charm that truly differentiates it from the current crop of executive saloons.
The Volvo S90 would only be available in one diesel variant that should host most features as standard. Powering the car is the D4 powertrain that features the company’s successful 2.0-litre diesel motor. The engine is good for a healthy 190 HP and 400 Nm torque. The Euro 6 compliant motor should make the S90 highly efficient and a decent performer with going gets sporty.
Volvo has spared no expense with the S90’s interior. It is surprisingly simple, yet highly functional and well thought. Intelligent simplistic design elements are the latest trend and Volvo really nails the target. The interior is lavishly laid out with splashes of beige and cream.
The car’s front fascia features tall rectangular air-con vents that sandwich a 12.3inch multi-purpose touch display. The infotainment system is Apple CarPlay compatible and hosts a bunch of interesting features. A sophisticated Bowers and Wilkins car audio system orchestrate the music. These Bespoke touches ensure that the S90 immerses its passengers in a lap of luxury.
The gorgeous new Volvo S90 is the Swedish brand’s best work yet. With its futuristic outlook, Scandinavian simplicity and sensual charm, the S90 packs a proper punch. The Germans definitely have to keep an eye out for the plucky Swede. Priced at Rs 53.5 Lakh (Ex-showrom Delhi), the Volvo S90 is a properly cool and interesting alternative to the existing luxury executive saloons. What are your thoughts on the new Volvo S90?
